So imagine this: you're a big-shot Hollywood producer (I know, we're really stretching the limits of our imaginations here) and you just produced your first big movie! But uh oh - you find out from the test screening that it's terrible! It's too late to reshoot the whole movie; we know, we're Disney, we've tried. So you've gotta release that sonuvabitch and hope no one realizes it's bad. Now, it is a Disney movie, so parents will probably take their kids to go see it if no one knows it's bad yet, and it'll make bad some of its budget, but at what cost to your reputation? Would it help your career in the long-term to throw the rest of the producers under the bus in interviews?
This challenge is a classic game theory scenario, played in 4 teams of 7. Everyone on your team has a button in front of them. If you push the button, you spend every interview leading up to the movie making sure everyone knows you're fully aware it's total garbage, and you are
not responsible for it. If you don't push the button, you keep your mouth shut and let the money come rolling in.
The Maroon Team was involved in the production of
Song of the South 2049, a dystopian tale of a future Civil War, starring Zazie Beetz, Helen Mirren, Megan Fox, Zac Efron, Paul Rudd, and Seth Rogen.
The Navy Team was involved in the production of
Mama Has No Hands, an inspiring tale of a young girl growing up while fighting the persecution of her peers due to her mom's disfigurement from a shark attack. Starring Millie Bobby Brown, Meghan Markle, Kevin Hart, and Seth Rogen.
The Yellow Team was involved in the production of
Babes in Toyland (2019), a raunchy remake of the 1961 classic featuring the hottest babes, starring Ariana Grande, Jessica Alba, Kate Upton, Amber Heard, Margot Robbie, and Seth Rogen.
The Green Team was involved in the production of
Mary, a reimagining of the classic nursery rhyme "Mary Had A Little Lamb", with Mary (played by Scarlett Johannson) now as a full-grown woman born in China fighting her way out of poverty with a lamb as her only friend (voiced by Seth Rogen). But now... she's out for vengeance.
The descriptions of the movies is irrelevant; we just wanted you to know the level of failures you're responsible for.
At a base level, everyone on a team will receive
$2,000 for the release of their movie. However, for every person on your team that pushes their button, excluding yourself, your payout
goes down by $500. The only way to cut your losses is by pushing the button yourself, because
if you push the button, the amount your payout goes down by is cut in half. This is all laid out in the below table.
You have
24 hours to discuss the dilemma with your team and make a decision in your Challenge Thread. At the end of the challenge, you'll be told how much money
you personally earned. It will be announced how many people on each team pushed the button, but not who those people were.
